Drapery business opened in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England, in 1865 by 21-year old Thomas Burberry, producing waterproof garbardine raincoats. Since 1988 has enjoyed success with its youthful collections although appearing keen to distance itself from the so-called 'chav' culture.
